Burdett awarded for school nutrition program

Burdett School was recently honoured for its contribution to promoting nutrition within its school. Burdett was recognized with $1,000 from Alberta Milk's Nutrition Innovation Awards.

The awards ceremony took place at Burdett School on Monday, June 28 with representatives from Alberta Milk in attendance. There, the cheque was formally handed to the school.

Details of Burdett's initiatives included introducing "Munchy Monday", where students received a healthy snack and a nutrition lesson and starting a Cooking Club for students from Grade 4 to 6 and a junior high course on cooking. Also, pop and junk food were banned from the school store and a vending machine with healthy snacks was introduced.
