Board Highlights - June 13, 2017

1.  The board approved the Preliminary 2017-18 Budget.  Highlights of the budget include; an enrolment decrease of 7.5 FTE students, a projected deficit in operations in Plant Operations and Maintenance of $26,818, an anticipated deficit in Transportation of $427,807, a deficit of $7,142 in Instruction, and anticipated spending of $2,449,780 in board and system administration (4.77%).  Overall, the division is presenting a deficit budget of $655,918 for 2017-18, reducing the division’s reserves by $432,598, leaving approximately 5.22% of operating reserves compared to expenses.
 

2.  The board received a presentation from Moving and Choosing Coordinator S. Brown who provided an overview of health and wellness projects initiated throughout the 2016-17 year.  Goals included strengthening Consortium for School Health (CSH) practices to support and engage school Health Champions and school communities, provide Mental Health Literacy training to PRSD staff, and approve a district Wellness Administration procedure.  A presentation was made by a group of Margaret Wooding students, the 2016-17 winners of the Healthy School Cup.  The students provided an overview of their yearlong plan for introducing healthy initiatives at their school.

 
 

3.  Connected over videoconferencing, the board congratulated Senator Gershaw student M. Burgess, who is one of only 16 students worldwide who received the Vimy Foundation Scholarship.  The scholarship includes an expense paid trip to Europe to work with the Vimy Foundation, to serve as a school ambassador, and to learn the history around Vimy Ridge.   The board voted to send an official letter of congratulations to M. Burgess.


4.  ​The board voted in favour of passing a by-law to allow for additional voting stations for the 2017 fall general election.
